Sir Emeka Offor Acquires PHCN, Enugu Distribution Zone. [A Congratulatory Message]

"Whenever you want to achieve something, keep your eyes open, concentrate and make sure you know exactly what it is you want. No one can hit their target with their eyes closed”    --- Paulo Coelho

When Paulo Coelho made this motivating statement, it seems he had Sir Emeka Offor in mind. The success story of the Chairman of Chrome Group,Sir Emeka Offor is the story of hardwork, determination, doggedness and above all God’s favour. Born without a silver spoon, he did not allow his poor background to weigh him down and stop him from getting to the pinnacle of his talents as he now owns one of the multi-billion Naira conglomerate in Nigeria, the Chrome Group. As my friend, Uzo Onwuchekwa, will always say; “one who comes from a poor background, should not keep his/her back on the ground.”

This piece is to congratulate a worthy investor and entrepreneur Sir Emeka Offor, who recently acquired the defunct Power Holding Company of  Nigeria (PHCN), Enugu Distribution Zone and whose giant strides has touched all spheres of human endeavors. Just like many of the world seasoned entrepreneurs, you are a man with the “Midas touch”, who plays in the same league with the likes of Dangote, Adenuga, of this world.

When the present administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan promised to reform and revive the energy sector, so as to be a catalyst for the Industrial Revolution, we have been clamoring  for. All welcomed it, praying that the process will usher in a world class company that will raise the bar in the industry and provide an international standard services in that sector. Never, did we know that one of us, Sir Emeka Offor, has been working assiduously to cater for the yearnings of  his people. When one of his companies, Interstate Electrics Limited,  in partnership with other International Companies bid for the now defunct PHCN, Enugu Distribution Zone. It is his love for his people that made him to invest and provide world class services and expertise to them. He could have done such in the other regions of the country, but in his usual humble self, he chose his people above others.

The event of 1st November, 2013, showed clearly that Interstate Electrics won the bidding process and was rightly handed over what was left of the ailing PHCN to revive. It is on record that your business skills and commitment made your company, Interstate Electrics came out top among the numerous companies that took part in the bidding. A glance at the profile of  Interstate Electrics, one will notice that you have assembled some of the best in the world to come and contribute in the turning around of  the energy sector in the South- Eastern part of the country and thereby awaken the sleeping industries in the region especially in Nnewi and Aba, in Anambra and Abia States, respectively.

Interstate Electrics Limited is a consortium incorporated as a vehicle for the purpose of acquiring and operating Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria. Interstate Electrics Limited consortium comprises: Chrome Consortium Energy Nigeria Limited, Powerhouse International Limited, and Metropolitan Electricity Authority, which parades a competent team of electricity infrastructural engineers, owners/operators of electricity power distribution companies, upstream and downstream oil operators and empowerment partners, with a collective global experience of over 80 years, and the requisite financial resources and technical competence required to reactivate, modernize and operationalise the Enugu Distribution Company (DISCO).
The strength of Interstate Electrics Limited derives from its local knowledge of the operating environment, and global experience of its key technical partner (Metropolitan Electricity Authority of Thailand). Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) for instance, currently owns and operates distribution networks around the world, especially in Thailand where it has been generating and distributing electricity for the past 55 years. MEA currently distributes over12,000 MW of electricity in Thailand.

I must congratulate this great son, for his landmark achievement, "maka na-eto dike na nke omelu, omekwa ozo".

Emeka Ofora
